this is one of John Krakauer (author of Into Thin Air..the mount everest disaster some years back) better books as he takes readers into the world of Latter Days Saints and fundamentalist Mormon. The author really broaden the darker side of the Mormon religion, in particular, fundamentalist Mormons.
The book started out in 1984, in a Utah town, where two brothers entered the home of another brother and killed the brother's wife and over 1 year old baby. The two brothers were sentenced to death, however, neither had no remorse about the murders and had no trouble explaining the WHY for killing... as it was defined and determined to be god's will. The book then went into the historical aspects of Mormon faith and it's faith-based violence, and embrace of plural marriages (polygamy)... the incest relationships, repeated rape of pre-teens and marrying off of teenage girls to some big ole grey back men. Even though LDS religion declares they no longer practice polygamy, it still is one of the main tenets for fundamental Mormons.
Very interesting book to read.
