Verizon Succumbs To Marley Clan Pressure
Kingston, Jamaica Sept 13th 11:55pm EST
United States Cellular Provider, Verizon Wireless, has just released a statement claiming they will drop the Bob Marley Ringtone Campaign.
Verizon who announced resumption of the campaign recently, cited its tongue-in-cheek fallback as an attempt to avoid potential court proceedings with 56 hope road music, the company which oversees the Marley Clan Estate.
Chris Blackwell, founder of Island records and an advisor to the Marley Estate, stated in an earlier report that he would have advised the company to pursue court proceedings, as the move by Verizon was an obvious attempt at circumventing the Marley Estate.
Verizon entered into a ringtone agreement with Universal Records earlier this year but this did not include licensed use of the Artistes name and image which is owned by 56 hope road music.
Universal Records is the parent company of Island Records.
