What about all of those food trucks outside city hall?

The big issue is the initial cost of a license. And to add to that there are only a limited number of places one can establish these types of businesses (legally). To do so (legally) you need to get the proper license which in many cases have been bought up by a small number of individuals who act as middle men. So not only do you have to pay for the cost of the license itself but you have to pay the middle man his cut for allowing you to use the license he has secured for that spot.

Indirectly it is almost a form of legalized extortion, you have to pay a third party if you want to conduct business. You can also say it is like paying rent to a landlord, except the landlord does not own the property in which you are conducting your business, only the license to conduct such a business at that location.

In the end, a lot of these folks work 70 or 80 hours a week and end up making very little. The only upside is they are working for themselves.

I don't know anything about that. How do catering trucks get around that. I have seen them at Go Stations and outside a bank where I worked and for a FACT I can confirm that I bought sandwiches, chilli, soup, pop, even those reall delicious mini-lemon tarts that you hardly see anymore. (Told you I would remember RichD).

I have seen these in Mississauga and Aurora. Are you going to tell me these aren't allowed in Toronto?
