Job, jab and jook
Jackass sey de worl' no level. Jackass sey 'im no rate 'ow de two sistren dem fram a certin work get lef 'cause a some likkle tape whe run.
Jackass has absolutely nothing to do with two certain ladies (no need to call the names) from a certain very public profession (no need to say which one), who lost their jobs recently because some sexually explicit images of them hit the public.
Jackass does not know them, he has never met them, never spoken to them and has hardly ever been in the same space as them (and that includes somewhere as huge as the Reggae Sumfest venue). Still, he is cross, from his nose to his tail, that they have lost their jobs. And, chances are, after this, they will not be able to get a job in that field, certainly not in Jamaica.
In other words, them get jook.
Jackass understands all this talk about role model and all that and impressionable young minds but he contends that those same impressionable young minds will be learning another lesson from this all, that of unforgiveness and inflexibility.
Nothing new
Because, trust Jackass, in this era of the Internet, oodles of cable channels flowing hither and yon, camera phones and iPods with whatever content they wish flowing into kids' ears, without their parents hearing a word, chances are this sex business is nothing new to them. Chances are, too, that whatever is contained in those videos and photographs is nothing new to them either.
As far as Jackass is concerned, the videos did not make the women's positions untenable. Far from it, seeing also that those positions were in entertainment where sexuality is a very prominent part and parcel of the package.
Not so noble
The world is not level at all because Jackass knows that quite a few people got their jobs through means that are not so noble. Of course, there is a school of thought that one has to go down to go up, which Jackass does not join, but to each his bone (heh heh).
But, seriously, how can we be saying that we are open with young adults about sexuality, encouraging them to talk to their parents, yet, at the same time, punishing two women for sexually explicit tapes? Do we not realise that, in a few years, videos of people doing what were once private acts will become seriously mundane?
Don't the people, who were responsible for having the women dismissed, see how much simulated sex there is in the music videos they allow on public television?
Don't they see how many ads, which do not have a blooming thing to do with music, are packed with sexually appealing women?
Guess they don't, or the ads would be pulled and the revenue given away because of strong morals and ethics.
