Jamaican hairdressers still tend to use chemicals to make hair bone straight and this is very damaging. Wash and wear hair is suggested by hairdressers as an alternative for Black women in careers in Black women still face significant challenges when they wear their hair natural. The hair is relaxed and 85 - 90% of the natural hair texture is kept. This makes it possible for women to wear their hair at longer length that would be challenging to manage using the usual hair care practices that are used by Black women in the west. The idea is that women in careers like newscasters, TV hostesses, acting, pageant contestants, and modelling can wear their hair closer to it's natural texture on their personal time and blow dry it straight when they need a straight look for work. It's also called texturizer in some areas.
