PERMITS TO START FIRES REQUIRED
(The Democrat)
The Nevis Division of the Fire & Rescue Services & the Nevis Disaster Management Office requests the cooperation of the General Public in stopping the illegal setting of fires.
The indiscriminate setting of fires has become very frequent over the past three months and has destroyed a considerable acreage of pasture grass, fruit trees and animals in Nevis. There has been a significant increase in the number of bush fires in 2006, including the extensive fire at Indian Castle on 13th April and subsequent fires at Liburd Hill and Mount Lily, where communities were also threatened.
Written permits to burn MUST be obtained from the Fire Services at the Fire Hall/Station in Charlestown.
