Eric: They were very happy to see that we were there to help them but they were just as happy to help us in our projects such as building a house. As for the culture, it was easy to adapt to because of my love for music and the friendliness.

What services (if any) did you provide for the citizens of these poverty stricken areas? [/qb]
André: We built a house, renovated a play structure that we built the year before, visited and renovated a golden-age home in Trenchtown, visited and renovated some schools, visited and helped out in a home for abandoned and abused children.

[qb] Prior to going to JA, what did you know about our culture? How was your adjustment to what you may have seen? [/qb]
Eric: We were well informed about the culture and things to expect but I guess I was still surprised to see how positive everyone is. Obviously, we knew about Bob Marley...

[qb] Do you plan to make this an on going effort ?
Can you tell how how you get your funding?
What are some of the communities that you visited ? [/qb]
Yes. This is the 5th year that André has been going. The project has also been extended to another school in the Ottawa region.
For the funding, each member pays 1000$ and the rest of the money comes from fund raisers such as a car wash, a garage sale, auction, Jamaican feast, etc...

[qb] Welcome, glad you stopped by. Just a couple of questions:
- How and when did the group get started?
- Was there any particular experience that was the catalyst that got things in motion?
- What is the composition of the group (age, sex, nationality)?
- What types of activities have you been involved in Jamaica and in what parts of Kingston?
- Do you have a web site?
- I have a 13 years old so I am curious to know if young people from outside the Ottawa area can get involved and how they go about getting involved?
- How can we assist you? [/qb]
- How and when did the group get started?
The group was started in 1995 in Orleans, just outside of Ottawa. A teacher who moved from North Bay and had done the project before started it here.
- Was there any particular experience that was the catalyst that got things in motion?
Since we didn't start the project, we're really not sure.
- What is the composition of the group (age, sex, nationality)?
The group is composed of 14 students aged 16-18. 13 are girls and 1 is a boy. All are Canadian.
- Do you have a web site?
Yes, we do. I believe it is listed at the bottom of our reply.
- I have a 13 years old so I am curious to know if young people from outside the Ottawa area can get involved and how they go about getting involved?
Well, right now we could use help with fundraising. Later on, we are thinking of opening up the project to other communities.

Eric: Family, Friends, and how lucky I am to be born in Canada and having a good education.

André: When I took over the project, our contact, Sister Grace of the Franciscan Ministries, was in Jamaica. We were so happy with our project the first year that we keep on going back.
