The May Pen Police are crediting the reduction in crime in the parish to their anti-gang strategy. Police figures released last week showed a 10 per cent reduction in murders for last year. According to the Superintendent in charge of the parish Dathan Henry, since the start of the year there also have been 33 fewer cases of shootings compared with 2009. Superintendent Henry says the cordon and search operations as well as the deliberate strategy of targeting gang members have been successful. He says the police will be increasing community policing efforts next year in an effort to further reduce incidents of criminal activities.
