Defeated aspirant in the race for Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) General Secretary, Daryl Vaz, says he is prepared to throw his full support behind Aundre Franklyn who is preparing to saddle up for the powerful political job. Mr. Franklin, a Government Senator and Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Health amassed 89 votes to Mr. Vaz's 55 during Sunday's keenly contested internal elections at the Jamaica Conference Centre.Mr. Vaz, who was Deputy Treasurer, says he will continue to give steadfast support to the governing party.Reflecting on the results of Sunday's elections, Mr. Vaz says he does not regret running for the General Secretary post."Hind sight is 20/20, I can't tell you what the reason is at this particular point but what I can say is that I maintain a profile as Minister, I maintain a profile as Member of Parliament and I maintain as somebody who does their job and what ever job they're given. I support any and everybody who is duly elected," Mr. Vaz said. And Mr. Franklin will have to hit the ground running in his new role as JLP General Secretary.One of his first tasks will be to complete the selection of candidates for the next General Election.Sunday night our news centre caught up with Mr. Franklin who gave details on some of his immediate plans."One of first tasks is to ensure that by the first two weeks in January the remaining vacancies will be filled to ensure that the Prime Minister has a free hand and he has candidates in place,""There is some work to be done out in the west and intra-delegate consultation to sort out any ripples that might have been left behind that will be dealt with expeditiously before Christmas," Mr. Franklin said.
