Mayor of St. Ann's Bay Ivan Anderson, who is facing heat arising from a fraud investigation against him, has moved decisively to explain to political members of the St. Ann Parish Council how he has become the subject of an active criminal investigation.Mayor Anderson called an emergency meeting of the Council on Wednesday morning after reports surfaced that a file is now before the law enforcement authorities for a ruling in a fraud probe.A source told RJR News that the Council, which has an even number of representatives for the two political parties, was given a comprehensive update on the police investigation by Mayor Anderson. The source said no decision has been made to remove Mr. Anderson from his position as Chairman of the St. Ann Parish Council until prosecutors in the St. Ann Criminal Court decide whether charges are to be laid against him.It is alleged that Mr. Anderson defrauded a woman of $5 million in a real estate deal. He allegedly sold a piece of property in Manchester for $8 million on behalf of a relative, who was living abroad at the time of the sale. When the relative returned to the country in August, and requested her $5 million from the deal, Mayor Anderson was reportedly unable to pay over the money. The relative reported the matter to the Brown's Town Police who called in Mayor Anderson for questioning, along with his attorney.A file was submitted to the court for a ruling which is expected to announce a decision soon.
