Airport authorities are being warned to brace for strong protest action by restive air traffic controllers. The Government has been insisting that it will be recovering monies it claimed it overpaid the Air Traffic Controllers. However, the controllers say they were not overpaid. Yesterday, a meeting between the parties aimed resolving the dispute broke down without a resolution. The Ministry of Finance through the Civil Aviation Authority's is attempting to recover the money it said it overpaid air traffic controllers over a 22-month period. The Jamaica Air Traffic Controllers Association says it's disturbed by the claim and has vowed to take strong action to register its insistence that it will not repay the alleged sums. President of the Association Kurt Solomon says the decision made at a meeting with members last evening. It's reported that 71 controllers owe the Government $51 million which would be equal to $69,000 a month for 18 months for each worker.
