Speculation is rife on Tuesday morning that a major shakeup is looming in the executive of the three-year-old Jamaica Labour Party government.RJR News has been reliably informed that Prime Minister Bruce Golding has decided to effect changes to key portfolios in his Cabinet. Our news centre has been informed that an announcement could be made to the nation in a matter of days.It is reported that two super Ministries will be created following the reshuffle with younger members of the Cabinet at the helm.Sources say there could also be at least one, maybe two new entrants to the Cabinet as the Prime Minister tries to infuse new blood into his team ahead of the next General Election. With newly elected JLP General Secretary Aundre Franklin signalling his intention to step down as a Parliamentary Secretary this would give the Prime Minister room to make a fresh Ministerial appointment. There is also the view that a couple ministers could be shuffled out of the Cabinet to allow them to devote more time to their constituencies in order for them to retain their seats.Since the JLP came to power in September 2007 there have been a few changes to the composition of the Cabinet. In April last year, Clive Mullings, Derrick Smith and Trevor MacMillan were relieved of their Ministerial posts while Olivia 'Babsy' Grange was stripped of the Information portfolio.Mr. Mullings, who led the Ministry of Energy and Mining was replaced by James Robertson, Senator Dwight Nelson took over the helm at National Security while Daryl Vaz assumed responsibility for the Information portfolio. And when contacted on Monday night Mr. Vaz said he had not been personally informed that a Cabinet reshuffle is on the cards. However, he said that was a matter the Prime Minister would hold close to his chest."That is the Prime Minister's prerogative and I would be the last person to know. I think he will make that known if and when he has made a decision I don't think he would telegraph that to anybody," Mr. Vaz said.
