Eight members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), who were involved in the controversial shooting death of a 16-year old youth in Spanish Town, St Catherine five months ago, are to be charged for failure to cooperate with investigators. On Tuesday, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) ruled that the cops should be charged after they refused to cooperate with the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM), in its probe of the incident.The eight policemen are to be charged on Monday and taken before the Corporate Area Criminal Court.They are to be charged with the offence based on the provisions under section 31 of the INDECOM Act.It is reported that INDECOM served notice on the policemen several weeks ago to attend a video identification exercise in relation to the shooting death of 16 year old Derrick Bolton, a resident of Thompson Pen, St Catherine.The cops were also given notice to submit statements and to attend INDECOM to answer questions about the shooting, but refused to cooperate with investigators from the Commission.INDECOM submitted a file to the DPP demanding that action be taken against the policemen.The teenager was shot dead on August 13, hours after eight persons were killed in Tredegar Park, St Catherine.The youth was a resident of an area known as "Brooklyn", was shot dead by members of the police force who were searching for the men responsible for the Tredegar Park massacre.Residents claimed he was killed by the cops who were hunting for a suspect who went by the same alias, "Crabby".They said Derrick was not the man they were looking for.However, the police claimed he was killed in a shoot-out.
