People's National Party (PNP) councillor for the Calderwood Division, Vinnette Robb, is to assume the position of Mayor of St Ann's Bay, following a decision by Ivan Anderson to step down from the post yesterday. Anderson's decision follows a ruling by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Paula Llewellyn that he be charged with fraudulent conversion. Yesterday, Llewelyn would not provide details regarding the nature of the allegations made against Anderson. However, she said the police had submitted a file to the clerk of the St Ann Resident Magistrate's Court for a ruling after a complaint was made against Anderson. Llewellyn said that following a ruling by the clerk, the file was sent to her office where it was reviewed and the ruling endorsed. The matter reportedly involves a multimillion-dollar real-estate transaction, undertaken by Anderson. However, Anderson has declared his innocence and his intention to vigorously challenge the charges and clear his name. He also says he has indicated to the PNP and his colleagues at the St. Ann Parish Council that he will be taking temporary leave of his position as Mayor and all other positions within the Party until the case is resolved. However, he will remain councillor for the Browns Town division.
