In less than 24 hours residents of North East St. Ann will be heading to the polls to elect a Member of Parliamen (MP). Director of Elections, Orett Fisher told RJR News that all is in place for the by-election which will cost $19 million.The election is being contested by Shanine Robinson, former Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) MP and veteran Journalist, Devon Evans of the People's Political Party.The Opposition People's National Party is not fielding a representative.The polls at a provisional Election Centre at the St. Ann North Eastern Constituency Office, 54 Main Street, St. Ann's Bay, will open at 7am and close at 5pm.The Electoral Office of Jamaica says it will have a media tent in place at the counting centre for the by-election at the St. Ann's Bay Court House on Main Street.There are just under 40,000 electors in North East St. Ann, based on the May 30, 2010 voter's list which will be used.Those are the only persons eligible to vote on Monday.The by-election became necessary, after the Court ruled that Mrs. Robinson should not sit in Gordon House, as she is a naturalised American.The JLP says she has since renounced her US citizenship.
