The Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation (KSAC) has announced that it will be closing Beckford, Pechon and West Streets, in downtown Kingston, to vehicular traffic for three days this week to facilitate Christmas shopping. Mayor of Kingston, Desmond McKenzie, says this will allow vendors and shoppers to maximize benefits from the seasonal shopping spree, and encourage the public to patronize downtown as the city's main shopping centre. The three streets will be closed between Wednesday and Friday. This follows the KSAC's annual downtown Kingston Christmas shopping promotion which ended on Saturday.Mayor McKenzie along with Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries Dr. Christopher Tufton and Town Clerk Errol Greene also toured the Coronation Market on Spanish Town Road.Tufton said efforts by the KSAC to promote shopping for produce at markets downtown will benefit not only vendors and their customers, but also local farmers who have suffered setbacks this year, including crop losses due to floods.
