MONTEGO BAY, St James -- A Trinidadian woman who the court heard had fleeced several persons out of their money by promising them jobs overseas was remanded in police custody when she appeared in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday.Sheriese Egbo, who is facing an additional charge of breaching the Immigration Act after overstaying her time on the island, told the court she was suffering from cancer and had a brain tumour.The case was reported on national television last week after 64 persons turned up at the Norman Manley international Airport to fly to Barbados where they were expecting jobs.The woman, who cried loudly in court, said she stayed here because of her frequent trips to the hospital and said the arresting officer had taken all her medical records when she was held.Her male companion, Kimanni Bailey, of a Winchester district, St Thomas address was offered bail in the sum of $150,000 with up to three sureties with conditions to report to the Golden Grove Police three times a week.The court heard that between October and December this year, Egbo solicited money from several persons promising them jobs in Barbados.It was heard she collected between $17,500 and $40,000 from each person for a total of $286,000 but when they showed up at the airport on December 2 there were no tickets for them.Bailey it was said was present in some instances when money was collected and in some cases money was sent to him.The court heard that Egbo had gone to the airport on December 2 but then disappeared and was later held in Kingston on December 11.Egbo should have left the island by September 9, the court also heard.Both accused will return to the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court tomorrow when the case will be mentioned.
