A Haitian man who has been living illegally in Jamaica for 10 years is to be deported after pleading guilty to overstaying his time in the country. Ezra Risbrae entered the plea when he appeared in the Black River Resident Magistrate's Court in St. Elizabeth on Wednesday.He was held by the St. Elizabeth Police on November 26 while visiting friends in the parish.The court was told that Risbrae left Haiti alone on a boat and while at sea, the vessel developed engine problems.He was rescued and taken to Jamaica by fishermen from Old Harbour where he has been living.He also started a family.Speaking through an interpreter, Risbrae told the court that he faced challenges in obtaining immigration papers and wanted to stay in Jamaica so that he could have a better life.Despite his plea to remain in Jamaica immigration personnel recommended that he be deported.The recommendation was accepted by the court.
