Four men including a bank employee and a university student are now in police custody in relation to a major debit and credit card fraud racket. Police say the arrests were made following intensive investigations by the Organised Crime Investigation Division (OCID). Last week, detectives attached to OCID arrested a 24-year-old employee of a major bank, on suspicion of conspiring with a gang to pin debit cards that were fraudulently produced. The cards were reportedly used at various merchants to make purchases. Cards belonging to one bank but fraudulently pinned with another bank's details were allegedly found in the man's possession. He's expected to be questioned in the presence of his attorney today. The OCID detectives say further investigations led them to the arrest of a 22-year-old man from Montego Bay. He was found with several debit cards belonging to bank customers who had already fallen victims to cloning and had lost several hundred thousand dollars. Investigations revealed that these cards were fraudulently pinned by the accused. An increase in credit and debit card fraud in western Jamaica led OCID detectives to arrest two other men of Green Island, Hanover addresses. One of the men is said to be a student at the University of the West Indies. These two men were found with credit and debit card manufacturing equipment, including a card reader, an embossing machine and lists of credit card numbers belonging to customers. The men were also fingered as suspects behind the cloning of a card belonging to a foreign national who was a recent visitor to the island. Her card was cloned and used at various merchants in western Jamaica, resulting in a loss of US$8,000. She made a report to detectives attached to OCID who carried out investigations which led them to the two men from Green Island.
