The Overseas Examinations Council is reporting an increase in the number of candidates sitting the Caribbean Secondary Examinations Council (CSEC) examinations in January 2009 over January 2008. According to its recently released report, there was an 8% in the number of candidates sitting the examinations in public schools, while there was a 7% increase in the number of privately entered candidates.Sixty four schools and 17 private centres entered over 8,000 candidates for the January 2009 sitting of the examinations.The Examinations body is also reporting that there has been a steady increase in registration overall, despite minor dips over the period 2001 to 2009 in both candidate as well as subject registration.Candidate registration for the May/June 2009 sitting also improved over May/June 2008.The number of candidates from public schools increased by 1%, while the number for private candidates increased by 2%.Three hundred and fifty centres entered over 73,000 candidates for the May/June 2009 examinations.
