The Government of Jamaica will have to find the funds to pay $10 billion owed to E Pihl Construction Company for cost over-runs on a section of Highway 2000. The company was contracted to carry out work on segment three of Highway 2000, which runs between Ocho Rios and Portland. Transport and Works Minister Mike Henry, disclosed the figure at yesterday's ground-breaking ceremony for theconstruction of a new bridge at Rio Grande in Portland. Henry says he is now in discussions with E Pihl Construction to settle the debt. Meanwhile, he says the new bridge at Rio Grande, Portland is to be constructed at a cost of $26 million with work slated to begin next month. The construction is to be completed in 20 months. The works minister says the bridge will replace the old railway bridge, which was rehabilitated in 2005 following the collapse of the old structure during torrential rainfall associated with Hurricane Dennis. The old railway bridge was rehabilitated by engineers from the National Works Agency and was fitted with traffic lights, but is only able to accommodate single lane traffic
