A 31-year-old, who was accused of abducting two women at gunpoint and sexually assaulting them, was freed of the charges, on Friday morning. The man was freed in the Gun Court, after the judge agreed with the no-case submission raised by defence attorney, Carolyn Chuck.The defendant was charged with rape, abduction, indecent assault, and illegal possession of a firearm, arising out of an incident in Franklyn Town, St. Andrew, last year.Government prosecutors led evidence that on January 2, 2010, two women in their early 20s were going home, after attending a party.They were ambushed and held at gunpoint by the accused.He took them into the Franklyn Town gully where he sexually assaulted them.The man was charged four days later, after he was held and pointed out on an identification parade.However, at the trial, Ms Chuck identified and highlighted discrepancies in the victims' testimonies.The attorney highlighted the fact that the women gave statements that they did not know their attacker.However, at the trial, one of the women said she had known him for 10 years, while the other said she knew his mother.The judge agreed that the identification evidence was weak, and ordered the man's release.
