PM tells of assassination plot BBC Caribbean Dr Gonsalves says the plot was hatched after the last election St Vincent's Prime Minister, Ralph Gonsalves, announced in Parliament on Thursday that there was a plot to assassinate him.Dr Gonsalves blamed what he called the country's two major drug organisations and claimed that they were upset by his victory in last December's general election.He said the conspiracy to kill him was hatched within a week of the 13 December general election, which saw his Unity labour Party score a narrow 8 to 7 majority over the opposition New Democratic Party.He said the alleged contract killer was subsequently held by police and charged with serious offences but not yet for conspiracy to murder on intelligence grounds.The Prime Minister also told the House that the alleged conspirators sought to secure another Vincentian to do the hit but he turned it down when he heard the name of the target.Dr Gonsalves said a Trinidadian was then hired.
