The country will have to wait until next week to hear the Government's next move regarding the controversial sale of the Sandals Whitehouse Hotel in Westmoreland.Prime Minister Bruce Golding says he will respond to questions tabled this week in Parliament by Dr. Wykeham McNeil, Opposition Spokesman on Tourism, on the Sandals Whitehouse Affair.Mr. Golding made the disclosure on Thursday.Reporters questioned the Prime Minister about a recommendation from Contractor General Greg Christie for a halt to the sale of the property to Gorstew Limited, which is chaired by hotelier Gordon Butch Stewart.Mr. Golding promised to provide a clearer picture on the issue."I hope to be able to answer those questions on Tuesday when I will respond more fulsomely to the concerns of the Contractor General," he said. The questions posed by Dr. McNeil concern the remaining debt to be carried by the Government after the sale of Sandals Whitehouse, the rationale for providing the buyer with a mortgage and the interest rate to be applied to the loan. The Office of the Contractor General (OCG) has recommended that the Government re-start the divestment of Sandals Whitehouse under its supervision. In a 22 page letter sent to the Prime Minister earlier this week, the OCG raised questions and concerns about the sale. They include possible irregularity and impropriety in respect of the proposed deal and unexplained circumstances regarding the valuation of the hotel. The OCG is also concerned about what it says were opportunities presented to the Government to pursue alternative options for the sale of the hotel which were not acted on.
