The St. Andrew North Police Division is reporting that it arrested and charged more than 25 persons this week after it embarked on an anti-gang operation. The operation was carried out in keeping with instructions issued by Commissioner of Police Owen Ellington at the start of the year for police divisions to target criminal gangs.Head of Crime for the St. Andrew North Police, Deputy Superintendent Altermoth Campbell, told RJR News Friday night that the persons have been charged with various offences.They include murder, illegal possession of firearm and ammunition as well as breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act.The individuals were picked up in Grants Pen, Red Hills, Stony Hill and Lawrence Tavern.During an operation in the community of Pinto in Stony Hill on Tuesday a point-three-eight revolver containing four live rounds was seized and a man arrested.And during a raid Friday evening, a large quantity of ganja was found at premises on Aldington Drive in Havendale.The weed was discovered in garbage bags and a suitcase.A scale, a quantity of wrapping paper and cash were also seized.Deputy Superintendent Campbell says the police will be continuing their operations in the division in coming days.
