More than a hundred truck drivers on Monday morning followed through on their threats issued on the weekend, to protest against the increase in carriage license fees.The private haulage contractors parked their trucks along a section of the Mandela Highway in St. Catherine where they stood bearing placards.Spokesperson for the group, Isaiah Thompson who spoke with RJR News from the scene of the demonstration, indicated that the truckers will intensify their protest throughout the day. "We are on the Ferry, by the stoplight on the way to Portmore, about 130 vehicles overall and more are joining up as we are here and we expect many more trucks,""We don't know where we are going to take it...trucks are lining up on the other side, the next time we are going to have to do it bigger. We are asking the minister to please do something about this before it goes any further," Mr. Thompson said.According to him, the truckers cannot afford the increase from $11,500 to $20,000. Last week incensed truckers from Bull Bay in St. Thomas also protested over the same issue by blocking the bridges at Eight Miles, Nine Miles and Ten Miles. They have also vowed to stage another protest if the fees are not revised.
