Opposition Spokesman on Tourism Dr. Wykeham McNeil has challenge claims that he is being "alarmist" in comments made on the fallout, the Falmouth cruise ship pier in Trelawny can have on Ocho Rios, St. Ann and Montego Bay in St. James. At an investors' forum last week, Dr. McNeil said the development of Falmouth could cause the decline of the tow resort areas. However those comments were rubbished by Tourism Minister Ed Bartlett and Transport Minister Mike Henry who both claimed Dr. McNeil was being "political" with his comments. However, Dr. McNeil has defended his statement saying it is a well known fact that Falmouth will cause some fallout for cruise passengers going to Montego Bay and Ocho Rios. "We are very clear that these are good projects but what we want to ensure is that the implementation is done in a way that there is no fallout. We have to ensure that with the opening of the Falmouth Pier, which is going to get a lot of attention and a lot of focus, work is done at Ocho Rio and Montego Bay to maintain their business and even grow it because we have spent a lot of time and money building the brands of both of these ports," Dr. McNeil said.
