THE Constituency Development Fund (CDF) Committee of Parliament this morning threw out a request by St Elizabeth North Eastern Member of Parliament (MP) Kern Spencer for $1 million to assist with repairs to the Black River fire station in his constituency.Moveta Munroe, who heads the CDF unit in the Office of the Prime Minister, said that CDF field officers have confirmed that the fire station is badly in need of repairs and there is need for relocation of personnel, however, the committee was dissatisfied by the breakdown of the budget presented by Spencer.It was not clear if the project will be returned for further consideration.Spencer's request was supported by information to the committee that $4 million had been secured by the fire department, $1 million was contributed by Spencer himself, and he was seeking the other million from the CDF. The total cost of the project is budgeted at $6 million.Spencer was not the only MP riding on bad luck at today's committee meeting.Member of Parliament Robert Pickersgill also had his request for monies to rehabilitate the walkway to the Linstead Hospital rejected.The committee had issues with the implementing agency being the SDC as their officials have said they neither have the capacity nor personnel to implement some of the projects sent to them.The committee, however, favourably considered more than 20 other projects of varying types.
