The People's National Party (PNP) has weighed in on reports of a looming showdown between the Police High Command and rank-and-file members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force. The party is to carry out an investigation into a plan by the High Command to take disciplinary action against Chairman of the Police Federation, Sergeant Raymond Wilson.RJR News first reported on Wednesday that charges are to be brought against Sergeant Wilson for comments he made against the government during his presentation at the Federation's annual conference last year. PNP seeks meeting with High CommandThe matter has caught the attention of the Opposition Spokesman on National Security, Peter Bunting.Mr. Bunting says he will be seeking a meeting with the Police High Command to get details on the move against Sergeant Wilson."Absolutely I am going to, before making any public comment attempt to speak with the High Command and brief myself fully on the matter and we will be making a statement," he said.It is reported that the Federation Chairman has been served with a draft of three charges being contemplated against him.He is awaiting a decision by Police Commissioner Owen Ellington on whether he should be charged and taken before the Force's internal disciplinary committee to be tried. Blatant corruptionThe draft charges come months after the Inspectorate Division of the JCF, headed by then Deputy Commissioner Charles Scarlett, launched an investigation to determine whether Sergeant Wilson breached the Jamaica Constabulary Force Act with his comments at the conference.Sergeant Wilson had accused the Government of blatant corruption and supporting criminals at the expense of those tasked with enforcing the law, in reference to the administration's handling of the Christopher "Dudus" Coke Affair.Members of the Jamaica Labour Party and the administration were up in arms over the comments, with St. Ann MP Ernie Smith calling for his resignation. If tried and convicted by the Disciplinary Committee, Sergeant Wilson faces a demotion, reprimand and a caution or dismissal from the Force. Under attackIn the meantime, the PNP is pointing to what it says is a disturbing trend in which public servants, who speak out on the actions of the Golding administration, come under attack. The issue was highlighted by Mr. Bunting."Courageous public servants who speak the truth whether at the [Manatt/Dudus] Commission of Enquiry going on now or otherwise about the corrupt actions of politicians in the Jamaica Labour Party to prevent or frustrate the extradition of Christopher Coke, it is a disgraceful [act] on the part of the government and it's even worse that taxpayers are paying these high paid Q.C. lawyers to go after some of our most outstanding public servants," Mr. Bunting said.
