There appears to be some discord among executive members of the Peoples National Party (PNP) in the North-East St. Elizabeth constituency. RJR News reports that there was a fracas at a meeting of the party's executive in the constituency, Friday night, between supporters of Caretaker, Senator Basil Waite, and Member of Parliament, Kern Spencer.It is understood that the meeting involved Senator Waite, Mr. Spencer, as well as PNP councillors and delegates.A shouting match reportedly developed between the supporters of Mr. Spencer and Senator Waite, which led to an altercation, and one person being taken to the Santa Cruz Police Station. However, when RJR News checked with the police in the parish, they said they received no formal reports of the disturbance.When contacted, Julian Robinson, Deputy General Secretary of the PNP, confirmed the incident and said the party would be investigating."The Party has received reports of an incident that took place of the constituency executive of North East St. Elizabeth yesterday. We are investigating to find out exactly what took place and then we move to take the appropriate action but at this point, we don't have a formal report and we won't be commenting further until we have all the facts," he said.Senator Waite is to replace Mr. Spencer on the PNP ticket, in the next general election.
