Robert Montague, the State Minister for Local Government, has vowed that heads will roll if there is any truth to reported incidents of abuse and mistreatment of residents at the Golden Age Home in Vineyard Town, St. Andrew.Mr. Montague has asked Major Frank McCaulsky, the Chairman of the Home through the Administrator, to submit a report responding to the allegations. Link to story: http://bit.ly/dOyk5PThe report is expected by Monday afternoon.In addition, the Board of the Golden Age Home has been instructed to convene an extraordinary meeting as soon as possible to discuss the allegations made in a newspaper report on Sunday.Speaking with RJR News on Sunday night Mr. Montague expressed concern about the damning claims.He said every effort is being made to get all the facts."It will simply mean that the investigation will go forward and if the allegations are proven to be true, the chips will fall where they may. The Board has been asked to meet within 24 hours and I expect that report immediately," Mr. Montague said. According to the newspaper article, residents of the Golden Age Home are subjected to inhumane treatment including mass bathing, verbal abuse and unsanitary conditions.The Golden Age Home which was established in 1982 in the wake of the Eventide fire in 1980, currently houses more than 400 residents.AccountabilityMeanwhile the People's National Party is also calling for the persons involved in meting out poor treatment to the residents of the Golden Age Home to be brought to book."We're really calling for the government to investigate this matter at the highest level, it falls under the Office of the Prime Minister and no less of a person that the Prime Minister has responsibility for the portfolio and so I believe that out of the Office of the Prime Minister there should be an investigation to bring this matter to closure.
