The government is setting aside $100 million to provide financial support to members of the disabled community who are interested in setting up small, medium and micro enterprises.
The loan is to be administered through the Development Bank of Jamaica (DBJ) at an annual rate of 10% with a one year moratorium.
In making the announcement, Prime Minister Bruce Golding said the funds must be used strictly for viable economic projects that can create jobs for the disabled.
Mr. Golding said access to the loans must be widespread and that interested persons within the disabled community must be able to access the money through People's Cooperative banks and credit unions.
The details of the loan are to be worked out between the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Investment Karl Samuda, Minister of State in the Ministry of Labour and Social Security Andrew Gallimore and Milverton Reynolds, Managing Director of the DBJ.
