Minister of National Security Colonel Trevor MacMillan said the fight by the security forces to reduce violent crime is about to be ramped up even further.
Colonel MacMillan said the new strategies aimed at restoring calm in particularly volatile communities have been given Cabinet approval.
Speaking Wednesday morning at a "Meet the Ministers breakfast" hosted by the GSB Cooperative Credit Union, Colonel MacMillan said these will be implemented by the Jamaica Constabulary Force in collaboration with the Jamaica Defence Force.
These strategies include the intensification of efforts to dismantle criminal networks, the strategic deployment of law enforcement personnel in communities which have recently come under attack by criminal elements and a renewed focus on hot-spot policing.
The Minister noted that several of these strategies have been in effect since Saturday and that the activities will be stepped up over the coming days and weeks.
He also pledged Cabinet's commitment to the provision of adequate resources to counter the upsurge in crime.
Colonel MacMillan said the Commissioner will announce the specific policing strategies shortly.
As announced by the Prime Minister in his address to Parliament on Tuesday, the Ministry of National Security will shortly introduce legislation to support these anti-crime efforts.
On the matter of the recently completed Strategic Review of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, Colonel MacMillan said his Ministry will move to implement those recommendations, critical to the reorganization of the force, once Cabinet gives the go ahead.
