JA gets new PM this month
PJ Patterson's tenure as Prime Minister of Jamaica will end on March 30 when he submits his resignation to the Governor General.
Mr. Patterson ended the guessing game about his resignation date when he addressed Monday afternoon's post Cabinet press briefing.
Stressing the importance of a seamless transition, Mr. Patterson said Prime Minister designate Portia Simpson-Miller will be sworn in on the same day.
He said the new Cabinet will be named on the following day - March 31.
The Prime Minister indicated that he will hand over the leadership of the People’s National Party to Mrs. Simpson-Miller at a meeting of the National Executive Council at the National Arena on Sunday March 26.
In the meantime, Mrs. Simpson-Miller, who was also at the post Cabinet meeting, said the ceremonial opening of Parliament will take place on April 12.
This will be followed by the tabling of the estimates of expenditure with the budget debate to begin days later.
