Four persons killed in mysterious attack in Denham Town
Monday, 29 October 2007
At least four persons were fatally shot and five injured Monday in Denham Town in Western Kingston.
Investigators are working feverishly to unravel the mysterious circumstances under which the men met their deaths even as angry residents point fingers at the crime-fighters.
It has been a harrowing day in Western Kingston.
It was nothing short of a shocker for the massive throng which descended on Maddens Funeral Home and the Kingston Public Hospital in a frenzy.
And it has been gruelling for the huge contingent of security personnel who kept watch on members of the crowd who appeared to have gone berserk, in the aftermath of the incident.
No one seems to know what really happened on Little Water Street in Denham Town.
One woman wept bitterly when she was not allowed to enter the area that held the victims even as the police shunted them off to hospital.
She lamented that her baby was in a house there.
Even at this point no one seemed to know the number of persons who had died.
As rumours flew, the fury of the people seemed to hit fever pitch.
A man commented that this was de ja vu.
He was referring to July 2001- the so-called West Kingston massacre.
He showed scars of that incident, a healed gunshot wound to the stomach.
Over on North Street at the Maddens Funeral Home, a woman lay in a crumpled heap.
She sobbed that she had told Damian to stay away from the area.
It was later understood that Damian was her son.
He was among the four killed.
Young women walked about and wept while friends lent supporting arms.
Metres away at the Kingston Public Hospital, another large contingent of police personnel attempted to keep the flood of onlookers at bay.
They encountered little success.
A doctor, who reportedly pronounced the victims dead, was still milling about with the police personnel.
Up to post time, personnel from the Scene of Crime, the Bureau of Special Investigations, Flying Squad among others were still in the area trying to make sense of Monday's killings.
