More competition in local broadband Internet market
The battle over market share in the local broadband Internet service is escalating with another firm stepping up its efforts to woo customers.
The St. Lucian firm Telegens, which operates out of New Kingston, has selected the American firm SkyPilot Networks to supply Jamaica with the infrastructure for broadband wireless services.
This system will provide increased access for businesses, multi-unit dwelling and residential customers.
By using SkyPilot's long-range, high-capacity system Telegens expects to deliver cost-effective data, video and voice-over-IP services across substantial distances with highly reliable coverage.
The use of SkyPilot's network architecture will provide Telegens with multi-hop capabilities to work around non-line-of-sight areas, a critical capability due to Jamaica's mountainous terrain.
Telegens will now go head to head with Cable and Wireless and Digicel which have already announced that they will shell out millions of dollars to increase their broadband capacity.
