This is just a start to their lineup, not impressed so far other than Steel Pulse, Junior Kelly and of course Morgan Heritage, but I hope I am not disappointed like last year - Third World and Black Uhura, felt like I shoulda stayed home and played the CD's [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/blush.gif[/img]

Looks like a good time will be had by all. Whenever I think of Steel Pulse I always think of Aswad. The two go hand in hand for me. Had the chance to spend considerable time with Brinsley Forde of Aswad fame back some 3 [or 4] summers ago when Tabarruk [with Brinsley as guest vocalist] played our bar up in Muskoka. Forde was outstanding. His stage presence and command of the audience was world class. A true showman with a whole heap of TALENT. He [and his lady] stayed with us at our summer residence and he ended up interviewing ME!!! In addition to touring Canada with Tabarruk he was preparing audio items for inclusion on his story of Reggae in Canada for his BBC Radio show.

So what does this have to do with the Montreal festival? Nothing. It's just that the mention of Steel Pulse triggered the story.

See...both of those British Reggae super-groups used to share the Island record label with Bob and the crew. Those were the days nuh true?

Love Muskoka, though I haven't been up there in a while. Still have very fond memories of a little Chinese Restaurant in town that sold some of the best Chinese food I've ever had.

Heh Sis. NO. I no longer travel to large cities for ANY reason...except for work of course. All attractions that might have drawn me in previously have expired.

Haven't seen Carrie in about 13 - 14 months. She'll have to come see me now. [And Tanya and Keelie too]

Nothing says summer in Montreal like the cool rhythms of reggae music during one of the city's most celebrated festivals. The Montreal Reggae Festival celebration is back for a fifth consecutive year at the Quays of the Old Port of Montreal and as always promises an international mix of reggae superstars including top artists from the home of reggae music – Jamaica!



Headliners for 2008 include: STEEL PULSE, MORGAN HERITAGE (back by popular demand), JUNIOR KELLY, WARRIOR KING as well as upcoming phenomenon MIDNITE BAND, and a special after-party live performance at the new House of Reggae showbar by the original bad boy CALTON COFFIE (formerly lead singer of Inner Circle; songs such as &quot;A la-la, la-la, long…&quot; and &quot;Bad boys, bad boys, whatcha' gonna' do…&quot.

Highlights of the weekend - (I wasn't 'feeling it' so I missed Fridays performances, but I do know the power was cut during Empire Isis' performance)... Saturday, the capacity crowd was treated to newcomer LJX out of Toronto, Midnight Warrior, and Morgan Heritage always a crowd pleaser (in spite of a smaller stage than usual); on Sunday the rain came down quite hard most of the day, into the early evening; new equipment wiring was needed before anyone could perform, which meant the show did not start until roughly 9:30 pm and only the headliners were brought to the stage; Junior Kelly put on a wicked show last night -until organizers pulled the power as he was coming back for an encore, which sent him into an artistic 'display of emotion' compelling him to start his new release acapella; suffice it to say, he left the grounds feeling no love for MIRF organizers! Steel Pulse put forth a dynamic show, with the grounds closing towards midnight. Not a good day for most performers nor the vendors!

<span style="font-style: italic">(Also not a good time for my cameras / photo albums - I'm a little ticked that my camera didn't capture the moments, it appeared to be working fine, but did not store properly) ALL my Steel Pulse shots were ruined! </span>
