Re: Calgary Reggae Festival...MAXI PRIEST
Subject: REGGAEFEST 5 TO THE MAX! Maxi Priest for ReggaeFest 5 International Reggae Superstar Maxi Priest will join the already stellar line up of performers for the 5th annual Calgary International Reggae Festival. ReggaeFest 5 which runs from August 14 to 16, 2008 will feature the British born singer alongside other International and Canadian acts such as Brinsley Forde, Souljah Fyah, Jason Wilson, Tinga Stewart and Calgary’s own Lynn Olagundoye. ‘We’re very excited to have Maxi Priest in our line up for ReggaeFest 5.’ says festival producer Leo Cripps ‘We initially looked at him, but due to scheduling he was not available. Imagine how pleased we were when we found out he was available and would do the show?’ With more than 20 years in the music business and numerous recordings and live shows, Maxi Priest is regarded as the biggest selling living reggae performer. He first gained worldwide recognition with the release of Maxi (1988), spawning hit singles "Some Guys Have All the Luck" and a cover of the Cat Steven's classic "Wild World." Subsequent albums would see Maxi producing a string of top ten hits including ‘Close to You,’ ‘Housecall’ with Shabba Ranks and ‘That Girl’ with Shaggy. Over the years Maxi has recorded with top R and B and Reggae acts such as Roberta Flack and Beres Hammond and has toured the world extensively selling out shows from Japan to Germany. Maxi has been filling the role of guest lead vocal with UB40 since the departure of Ali Campbell and has been appearing on stage with the band across Europe and North America. Maxi Priest is expected to be the Closing act for what is anticipated to be the best ReggaeFest so far. ReggaeFest 5 runs this year from August 14 – 16 and will feature Red, White and Dread - Canadian Reggae Music Summit and Showcase. Tickets for the Main Event are on sale now online at www.ticketweb.ca and at all Calgary Co-op food stores.
