Red River (sequel to Cane River)

Well I just finished it last night. While I loved Cane River and added it to my top 5 favorite book list I wasn't so enthralled with Red River.

It felt a little forced and hasty to me. There wasn't the same character development as there was in Cane River. The story, while an amazing story that shook me and made me angry most of the time, didn't engulf me like I wanted it too. More than half the book was spent on the Colfax "Riot" and while I really enjoyed reading those chapters, the rest felt sort of thrown together.

Don't get me wrong, the book is good and I would recommend it, but it can't hold a candle to the prequel.

Anybody else read it?

Prequel? So this is a continuation of Cane River?

I'll have to add it to my summer reading list.

It is a continuation in that it continues telling her family history up to her parents generation.

It isn't told the same as Cane River. It focuses more on the males in her famly history and not the women.

I borrowed it from the library and couldn't get into it which was a great disappointment since I so loved Cane River.
