I notice that there ain't much life here in the old [books] MUSIC [poetry] art??? forum. This one 'used' to be mainly...by a huge margin...about *M U S I C*. And even now the majority of the music talk here is about WAY back in the day.
Is that because the participants here are TOO OLD to converse about today's music? Or is it really, as I believe, because most people [including about 50% of the younger demos] know deep down in their souls that the BEST music ever written performed, produced and recorded happened at least 15-20 years ago and beyond? You know back when the artists were actually unique.
I wonder why it is that the music 'industry'...not that there really is much of one anymore...try to force-feed us sound-alike, formula, party tunes 24/7? And they do so seemingly in compliance with what's left of the TV video 'genre' and radio which stopped playing music and started playing made for videos audio filler almost 3 decades ago. Then over the following 10 years talent was slowly dispensed with. [in favour of looks]
When I played out in Jamaica at parties and in small clubs where people congregated to play dominos or just talk I had to be specific about what I played. I'm talking about providing a soundtrack for BIG people. Now? I think they'd bokkle me if I played most of what passes for the 'hits'. Thank goodness for the old hits. They seem to be all we can sit on the porch and talk about.
Now...if only we could get to hear 'em.
