Start with Stacyann Chin's <span style="text-decoration: underline">Lost in Paradise</span>. Expect good writing, some challenging issues, and some humor.
Do you like short stories? There is a great collection in <span style="text-decoration: underline">Iron Balloons </span> from the Calabash Writers Workshop and edited by Colin Channer. One of my favorite stories there is "How to Beat a Child the Right and Proper Way." Good, succinct commentary of class, color, and raising pickney.

Gen I finally bit the bullet and when in wid mi wallet full to pay the fine and renew. When dem look there was no record of me in dem system 
I guess after so many years dem wipe out di record so I get to start wid a clean slate 
Gungo I don't particularly care for short stories....they always seem anticlimactic to me, or unfinished. I like big long books with a story that sucks you in from page one and keeps you sucked in right to the end.Comment

i recommend "Beloved" by Toni Morrison if ur in the mood for great storytelling around a sombre topic - the black experience during slavery.
if ur into chick lit, i recommend the light and easily digested brit authors Wendy Holden and Marian Keyes.
mysteries - haven't read any lately but books by ian rankine, christopher brookmyre are good.
i didn't know they had Zane in public libraries.

I read beloved long donkey years ago Zane I can't find in the library website but dem have E jerome Dickey Mirane Keyes I have read most of her stuff, easy to find in the used bookstore. The AA and west indian authors are books that are harder to get around these parts hence my venture to the library

okay, mi aggo presume uve read Anthony Winkler's Lunatic (my fave) and his others - my second fave of his is Going Home To Teach.
u don't like short stories but if u feel fi some one day, check out Dominican-born writer Jean Rhys (she dead now)
did u say uve read V.S. Naipaul? A House for Mr. Biswas, Miguel Street, Mystic Masseur?
