He was 94. According to Gibson Guitar, Paul died at White Plains Hospital. His family and friends were by his side.
As an inventor, Paul also helped bring about the rise of rock 'n' roll with multitrack recording, which enables artists to record different instruments at different times, sing harmony with themselves, and then carefully balance the tracks in the finished recording.

I used to go see Les Paul at a club in the Village called Fat Tuesdays back in the early '90's....his Trio played there darn near every Monday for about 12 years...not only was he a great musician and inventor, he was also a really cool guy...more than once he joined us at our little table and shared stories with us....somewhere around the house here I have an autographed photo of me and him....and you never knew when some famous rock n' roll guitarist would stop by to sit in with him....I saw Steve Howe from Yes one night and Slash from Guns n' Roses another night...
As a child of the rock n' roll generation, I'm forever indebted to Les Paul, who made rock music possible...
RIP Les
