Controversial Rapper Buju Banton's Tour Canceled After Protest

Rapper and reggae singer Buju Banton was planning to go on tour, slated to play dates in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Philly, Chicago and Dallas among other venues, but his road plans were stopped cold, embroiled in controversy.
The Gay &amp; Lesbian Center petitioned AEG Live and Goldenvoice – the promoters and producers behind Banton's tour – to cancel his dates because of Banton's lyrics, some of which advocate violence and brutality toward gays and lesbians, and successfully pleaded their case.

<span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-size: 14pt">As of Friday, all of Banton's dates were canceled.</span></span>

A sampling of the lyrics in question? In the song &quot;Boom, Bye Bye,&quot; Banton states that &quot;f****ts get up and run&quot; when he comes, that &quot;they have to die,&quot; and that he will shoot them in the head or &quot;burn them up bad.&quot;

yes. that is my point exactly. if EVERY song was like that then i can see a point (maybe not...we are talking about Buju here )

but its the same song! thats the only song they are quoting lyrics from and making a big deal about and i read somewhere that he wrote that when he was like a teenager or something because of a gay person doing something to a friend of his or someone he knew or something in JA when he was young

What we need to do is to blackball the racist organizations that are behind it. It is possible, but most people don't even know they have the power to achieve it.
You think that the number of incidents that got exposed and brought down the evil empire that ruled for the last 8 years was al an accident??

There is blame on both sides of the fence. The story about this song seems to have evolved every time this issues comes up. Keep in mind that these groups protesting reggae artist now include Jamaicans. The one song &quot;claim&quot; will not work because of various dubplates out there. When an issues confronts an artist he needs to take it head on. Confront it upfront. Have a press conference. Address it head on.

Eminem and other rap artists has gotten away with alot. These groups are very selective who they go after. The bottomline is these rappers have a powerful labels behind them and when issues are raised they quickly address it. Actually the artists get out front on the issue.
