Three Jamaica oriented books....

I know this will get trandferred, but I really wanted to have it exposed to more peeps before that happens....I've recently read '"Walk Good" by Roland Reimer (more or less a trip report of his times in Negril & his "take" on wha gwan), Banana Shout by Mark Conklin ( a fictional account of '70's Negril runnings ....'NICK'S Cafe" is a key part of the story) and lastly "The Dead Yard" by Ian Thopmson (a recent trip report with many references to the historical past of Jamaica with the authors take on WHY THINGS ARE AS THEY ARE & ALSO INTERVIEWS WITH MANY INFLUENTIAL jAMAICANS (PRESENT DAY) BOTH white & black.....very interesting & informative (to me).

Has anybaddy read any of these & care to give an opinion???

Keep in mind that I'm an American reading from that point of view:

&quot;Walk Good&quot;....very enjoyable reading to me, but kind of just another trip report written by an American from his point of view....very easy reading....finished n probably 1 1/2 days of reading when I had time. No disrespect to the author, who still comes to Negril....would love to meet him!

&quot;Banana Shout&quot;....COULD NOT put it down!.....really a fiction based on reality!....I was not in Negril, personally, during those times, but love to hear about what &quot;may&quot; have taken place. When I was there the beach was somewhat pristine....I remember the Wharf Club...it's where I had conch chowder every day and it was damn good too!.....anyone who knows Negril from these times can recognize the players in this novel. I thought it was great!....the original owner of Banana Shout has recently sold.

&quot;The Dead Yard&quot;....this book was a real history of Jamaica lesson for me along with an introduction to &quot;who's who&quot; in Jamaica in the present.....I was enveloped &amp; fascinated.

Really would like the opinions of Jamaicans who have read these books, especially &quot;the Dead Yard&quot;....thanks.
