Looking for Love by Sugar Jones

Yesterday I walked by Joseph-Beth Booksellers in Cincinnati where they were having a sidewalk sale. I came across this little paper back, Looking for Love, a story told by Sugar Jones with Rosemary Kingsland. For $3.99 it was a bargain.

From Amazon.com I found this description:

Anyone read this? I started reading it yesterday and just finished the foreword and chapter 1. So far, so good. My son read the book's description and asked me if this was a 'Precious-genre book with a Jamaican twist.'

OK. That was my first flag on whether this book is authentic in its Jamaican<span style="font-style: italic">ness</span>. Answer so far ... <span style="font-weight: bold">NO!</span>
There are many inconsistencies. Here's a few:

the written dialogue is more akin to urban black than patois
in describing life in a &quot;Kingston ghetto&quot; author talks about community cooking steaks on outdoor grill. Steaks?
five doctors rushing out to treat her mother who was stabbed in the abdomen in 9th month of pregnancy and then refusing to treat her because she had no insurance. Five doctors? Insurance?

And this is all in the first 3 chapters of this book

Ah gwine gi it two more chapters to redeem itself before mi fling it weh!

I was in Cincinnati which is NOT very culturally diverse so I figured this book was on sale because they had no market for it.
