We had talked about doing this down in the feedback section a while back and a few people had indicated that they had ordered the book. Well, my copy of Skin Deep: Black & White Women Write About Race FINALLY arrived. I ordered it from Amazon several weeks ago but they sent me Skin Deep by Lois Ruby in error.
Now that I have had a chance to flip through it, I think it makes sense to tackle one or two chapters at a time (if the two chapters hang together).
I think that this can be one of the most meaningful interchanges on the board if we start with the book as a basis, share our personal reactions and experiences, respect each other, take the time to HEAR each other even if we see things differently, and stay within board rules.
Suggestion: Let's read the introduction and the first story by Lisa Page. Lisa relates here experiences growing up as a child of mixed race (German mother/African-American father) in Chicago.
I will read tonight and post my reactions. Anyone, feel free to start us off.
