Hitler’s Black Victims:
This is a must read book. I will send it to my mother who likes a good read usually I tell her to dispose of the books when she finishes them but I want to keep this one

I waited a long time to have a book that covered this issue. More than thirty years !!!! I was fascinated by this subject since I discovered that the Germans had colonies. And discovered the last battle of the First World War was fought by Africans in Africa.
I am half way through this book. While it is a learning experience, it is at times disappointing. As it follows events in chronological order I guess I am half way through 1936..
I came to this book via three other books: I would suggest that this has prejudiced or jaundiced the point of view that I have. This is not that I don’t agree with the historical fact, it is the interpretation.
So against this back ground I present three books that in the last few years that have had an influence.
1) Kings Leopold’s Ghost: ( A praise poem to Morel with Africans as the helpless victim)
http://www.amazon.co.uk/King-Leopolds-Gh...mp;sr=1-1-spell
2) Hitler’s Empire: Nazi Rule in Occupied Europe: (Brilliant history but misses the issue of Africans inside Hitlers Empire!)
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hitlers-Empire-N...8899&sr=1-1
3) Tip and Run : (History of the African First World War). (European focus with

My fundamental disappointment is that is that issue of yankee Hegemony and issue all things does not stem from the US experience. Too much time is spent focusing on the African American experience in Europe rather than the Afro-Germans. The attempt to square that the circle and show that the Yankees were the architects of Hitler.
The history of post 15th century European racism predates the United States. Anti-Semetism, Anti-Slav sentiment, Anti Southern European, anti Islamic sentiment was long established before the US. So as to see a chapter that tries to imply yankee invention and German implementation misses the history IMHO.
As a story of yankee racism this is an excellent book. However Lausane misses the biggest point the glaring hole. German Colonial History: mentioned European and African variety.
The First World War in Africa is reduced to simply 12000 African Askari! Lettow Von Vorbek the world greatest guerrilla leader is a passing mention. The fact of the matter despite the so called shame of the Germans being occupied, Lettow Von Vorbek was the only German commander that was left undefeated in the WWI.. He did this through the death of millions, (1.2- 2 Million), starvation and privation. How Hitler and the Nazi’s reacted to blacks in Germany as initially tempered by this knowledge. It was that African Troops were a success.
The Herero Genocide deserves a chapter, analysis not Du Bois flirtation with Nazism
A major point that surprised me even more than Hilters empire that came out of this book is the fact that how German racial laws changed during his rule.
One other mistake is (and this will [censored] off Black Nationalist) was the Great Bismarck and other turn of the centaury German politicians did not see Africa as region to expand to. Exploit yes, profit at minimal out lay of resources.
Africa was till the late 19th Century the death of Europeans, the saviour being the Tsetse . Where the Germans in their post unification drive looked was to the East. Colonial German expansion (Libastrum) was focused to the East. Early in the book the list of colonials in the German African Colonies is less than 30,000.. Yet compare that to the attempts to get German settlement in East and to push back against the tide of Migration by Poles into German Spheres of influence. This number pales into insignificance compared to German Migrations to the New World both south and Central America as the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century.
Again there is little but a fleeting mention of German other colonies.. in the pacific.. in China (Tsing Tao, is not mentioned ) Samoa, New Berlin .. Apart from the brief mention in anti marriage laws as applied to Samoa. Again the author drives a claim that this came out of the US influence. Again forgetting completely all Europeans, even the Portuguese (with the Black Nationalist claim their royalty was black) had such laws. And Anti Sementic laws were on the books.. Again there was the post world war I laws debated in the Reichstag to keep marriage legal only Aryan, the claim that this came out of Jim Crow…
There are vingrettes in this book, A African (Spyglass) composer who survived WWII without being killed. The fact that Booker T Washington supported German colonialism and even sent students to Togo to apply the lessons learnt in 1903.. what they did ala Liberia.. When the pack animals died they tied Africans to the ploughs and made them pull!
Still I cant wait to see how does this gentlemen deal with black and African presence in occupied Europe! Denmark, France, Holland.. Or how does he deal with the fact that Nazi’s German first intervention outside its borders in WWII was in Spain. And the soldiers of the allies included the Army of Africa!
I like one thing unconditionally.. Morrel and Leapold Ghost... This book demystifies Morrel.. He shows the myth of the anti war liberal who comes to save us from evil are just as rascist... Morrel comments and his contribution to instesify the rascist campaign to remove the French colonial troops from the Rhineland contributed directly to how Nazis castrated black men and nuetered black women.. The lesson to be learnt is that the leftist white fellas who tell us what we should be or do will lead to black men balls being cut off.. So be aware!!!
I cant leave without mentioning a great book.

very good info Wahalla
There's a book in French, Noirs dans les camps Nazi (Black People in Nazi Concentration Camps) by Serge Blié, that gives a good introduction to the topic. When the book came out, it was given scathing reviews in the so-called left-wing newspaper, Le Monde. The book was denounced as a pack of lies by its numerous critics but they did nothing to really disprove Mr. Blié's research.
