Gregory be buried in National Heroes Circle..
the word went out that the family would like this to happen
then the printed word said the government had not had such a request
then u read that the appointed one was to be a liasion between the family and the government
i have to admit that i had to think on this for a minute...but then it came to me that Dennis had been afforded this honour and why not Gregory
i thought of just when i met him...i cant tell u for sure but it has been a while...i remember vividly the days when our home grown music got no respect at home except from the environ that it sprung from and those of us who counted our nationalism to be more than beaches
that statement alone will bring flack but hey it is the truth...i went thru the era when our beaches were ours n were on loan to visitors...now the beaches r on loan to us if we r lucky
tourism was a clique market but reggae was for the masses...the masses at home an the masses abroad...and Gregory was one of those who brought the name of Jamaica n its music to a mass appeal abroad
we might want to fool ourselves that the one love slogan has always been a part of things Jamaican but that is only believed by those who still wait on the tooth fairy...wen something as intrinsic as our music was frowned on by the minority in Jamaica who set our image abroad and told us wat we were to conform to. Gregory was one of the early trail blazers that said 'hell no'
he made the name of Jamaica more known abroad ,thru his music than any latter day ad campaign wich now capitalises on his early inroads
yes he had his problems, but he adimitted to them...i can vividly remember being in his record shop ,just me n him an his telling me he had got rid of everyone as they were enablers n he needed a change...
so does he need to be buried where he will always be seen..HEEEELLL YES....wen i think Jamaica i think of alllllll those early musicians who chose a route no one recognised, no one sponsored save the people of Jamaica..the people who continue to await the red roses that Gregory offered them for their striving against the odds
RED roses for Gregory's grave in the National Heroes Circle just as the eternal flame burns fi oddas
