P.S.
WHAT IS THE LUNCHEON-CONCERT?
This is a fundraiser by the Wolmer's Alumni Association, Toronto, and is given to raising funds for Wolmer's Boys School (1400 students) and Wolmer's Girls School (1400 students) which are located in Kingston, Jamaica. As well, the event raises funds to support the post-secondary aspirations of young Canadians in the Toronto area (scholarships).
The Luncheon-Concert will be held on Sunday, November 28 at the Pearson Convention Centre (See attached flyer). The event offers a wonderful four-course plated Luncheon followed by a performance by world renowned Jamaican-born jazz pianist Monty Alexander, an alumnus of Jamaica College. (See attached bio) For this event, Monty has promised a unique program in which he will present his piano arrangements of popular Jamaican music, and to deliver this he will be accompanied by three top Jamaican musicians who currently play out of New York. In addition, Monty will be joined by two of Canada's most accomplished jazz musicians, Dave Young and Terry Clark. So, we present Monty Alexander accompanied by five top musicians which adds up to one very special occasion.

ABOUT THE WOLMER'S ALUMNI ASSOCIATION, TORONTO
The Wolmer's Alumni Association, Toronto, is very active living its beliefs. At the core of our belief system is that the best way to foster the personal growth of young people in Jamaica and Canada is by supporting their educational development. This objective is even more urgent given the current financial hardship in Jamaica and the inadequate funding schools like Wolmer's receive.
The association is transparently governed by unpaid volunteers who take pride in ensuring funds are spent as promised. For instance:
- donations are forwarded in full (i.e. 100%) to the schools,
- in the past, 96% of funds raised in our fundraising Walk for Wolmer's campaign was forwarded to the schools, and
- the schools are required to provide a credible fund-use program before we release funds.
In the Giving Year 2009, our association provided the following benefits:
a) funded the participation of two students in the Barbados-based leadership program (Emerging Global Leaders Program- EGLP) operated by York University and Scotiabank,
b) funded a scholarship for a young Canadian, Charnel Grey, who enrolled this September in Waterloo University, Ontario,
c) funded associate membership for both principals (WBS and WGS) in Ontario Principals' Council (OPC),
d) contributed to the Student Welfare Programs at both Wolmer's Boys School and Wolmer's Girls School, programs which assist students with lunch and book expenses and bus fares. Note that many students attending Wolmer's require financial support. Some 50% of students at Wolmer's Boys School come from single-parent homes usually headed by an unemployed mother.
e) Funded the acquisition of a photocopier for Wolmer's Boys School.
f) Funded renovations to the library at Wolmer's Boys School (currently in progress).
g) Funded the renovation of the washrooms and other decaying buildings at Wolmer's Girls School (recently completed).
