Who's read this book?

I am currently reading it because it comes highly recommended.

However, I am having difficulty maneuvering the run-on sentences... ah mean, I've just come upon one sentence that is about 15 lines long!!!

I remember reading it a long time ago, when it just came out and The Today Show even picked it as their first book for their book club. All I remember is that it took me a while to read and I kept putting it down, but in the end I enjoyed it and thought enough of it to buy a copy as a gift for someone.

One of my book clubs sent this to me by mistake, then told me I could keep it. That was so long ago haven't touched it since it came. The two of you aren't making it sound appealing.

lol! i remember someone saying that about a Gabriel Garcia Marquez book. books with run-on-sentences are best read on holiday, i find.

Thanks for the link. I am going to try to stay away until I have completed the reading - which could be awhile, cause lawd... I find myself re-reading sentences and paragraphs, unsure if I had the meaning correct the first or second time around \0/

I do hope it gets more interesting cause lawks... and yeah I noted that Kimmer (how Valley girl is that???) is of Jamaican parentage... but so far, she is coming off so selfish - kinda like Hortense...

I did not like it and would not re-read it. Though there were many salient points in the book (as they relate to the darker nation) I just thought the writer was too pretentious.

And ponderous - Too many big words when they weren't really needed - I mean, sure, the narrator is a professor and must seemed learned, but damn, talk about overkill...

I think it's an art to be able say so much with as few words as possible - he hasn't mastered that art.

There were parts of the book where I folded the pages - points I thought I'd like to revisit. Yet, the fact that I did not underline them (which is what I usually do when I really care)...

I liked Tal. But I couldn't really relate to his blackness. Unless that's how middle-upper class black men act? [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70367-help.gif[/img] He blames much of his reticence and standoffishness on his parental influence, but I dunno, it seems to me there were places where he could've done something, instead of just waiting...
